Glass Blowing
In 2009 I started Glass Blowing by taking a class offered at my high school. Twice a week we were instructed by a professional glassblower and the rest of the week was for us to practice. I continued to take classes until I graduated from high school and enrolled in additional classes in college. Throughout this time I have learned from different instructors and continued to practice by creating a variety of forms. I have also experienced both custom and production work environments, working with many different crews to create glass work.
Various forms that I have created include cups, bowls, goblets, vases, pitchers, ornaments, flowers, pumpkins, and paperweights. Feet, stems, handles, spouts, risd rings, and optic molds were used to customize these pieces. While I personally enjoy a clear glass work that doesn't have color to distract from form, color can really tie a piece together. Several techniques that I have used include frit, powder, reduction, overlays, foil, cane, wraps, marbling, and optic molds. Lastly, I have used these methods in conjunction with cold working to further enhance designs, patterns, and optical qualities to create unique glass pieces.
