Shooting Sports
The first shooting sport that I picked up was Archery. I started in a Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) program. Here I learned the basics of safety and skills of the bow and arrow. I prefer traditional archery with longbows and recurves. Personally I like shooting without sights and aids because it requires greater intuition and skill. It also keeps archery from being too similar to shooting guns.
Later I learned to handle guns, shooting both rifles and shotguns. I learned on a bolt action rifle but then discovered pump action rifles in the form of a Winchester model 1890. I really like the unique action normally found on a shotgun, not a rifle. With rifles I mainly practice marksmanship on competition targets and with clay pigeons for shotguns.
